Here's how to schedule a system shutdown for Windows XP:
.) Open the task scheduler
.) Click on add new scheduled task
.)Click next on the wizard
.) Click browse
.) Find shutdown.exe from C:\Windows\System32\Shutdown.exe
.) Choose your preference. But for this example we'll be using a set of dates and times as schedule. (Brownout schedule) In this case, select one time only.
.) Set the time for the first run of the shutdown program.
.) Select the user name and password from which the program will be executed. I suggest you use the ComputerName\Administrator Account to leverage as much authority as possible.
.) Check the open the advance properties when done check-box. And press finish.
.) Define the shutdown.exe parameters. In the run text box, append "-s -t 45 -c "Scheduled Shutdown" -f" (do not include first and last quotes) and click apply. After doing so, the program might ask for the user name and password again.
