What is your overall impression of the LEC Professional Learning Leader coursework?
I have been very impressed with the content and resources provided in this course. I know from past experience in working with LEC the time and work that goes into developing quality content and the experts who have provided their expertise to develop this content. This course was very comprehensive and touched on all aspects of what it means to be a professional learning leader. Both Sandy and Lisa were excellent facilitators - great communicators and did not give up on me when I fell behind at the end. I would certainly take another course from Sandy and Lisa!
How have you grown as a Professional Learning Leader?
Although I came to this course with a number of years as a professional developer, this course has helped me sharpen and expand my skills. The focus on Adult Learning theory in the first module was a great reminder of the experiences, fears, anxieties, and expertise that our adult learners bring to our professional development. This validated my approach to how I work with adults and provided some new insights that have helped me better relate to my audience.
Module 3 addressed the models of professional learning and again, validated the approach that my team takes in designing professional development for our teachers. The module offered some new ideas that we will try going forward. Building Community from Module 4 provided me with some great resources and strategies to support our administrators in flipping their staff meetings - something we have discussed in our district but have not tried. Module 5 on digital literacy and citizenship was a great overview and I learned more about OER’s and Creative Commons, which I knew about, but feel more confident going forward. I enjoyed making the infographic on OER’s, Copyright, and Fair Use and it is something that I will use with my teachers in future trainings.
I gained the most from the last two modules on developing and implementing a vision and professional learning environments. Both of these modules were very timely in that they fit into ongoing conversations that we have been having in my district. The activities in these two modules have helped to provide direction in my district.
Overall, I have grown as a Professional Learning Leader in all of the areas above and will continue to build upon this knowledge as I begin implementing what I have learned.
