Unlike the members of the second generation, the members of the third Kerley generation were unanimously Patriots. They had never lived in Britain; the only country they knew was the United States. So, it is not surprising that at least four of them served on the Patriot side during the Revolutionary War. John (1760-1835) and his brother William (1761-1827) served in and around Albemarle County, Virginia. Records confirm this service.
Family legends have it that William (1756-1849) served in South Carolina and Henry (1758-1836) served in and around Burke County, North Carolina. There are, however, no records confirming either of these guys' services. We only have family lore to support the contention that these guys served.
