Attached is a news article from Southern News, Southern Connecticut State University's college-run newspaper. The article details the approval of the Communication Club as a recognized organization by the Student Government Association. I co-founded the club in March of 2018 and this article helps demonstrate my attainment of outcome 2B, devise creative and original solutions, and outcome 3C, verbal and nonverbal communication skills. The issue we were presented with was that there was no current student-led organization on Southern's campus focused specifically on the discipline of Communication. My colleague Emma and I worked throughout the semester to complete paperwork, set-up meetings, and ultimately pitch our organization for approval. By creating an organization from scratch, we had to come up with a mission statement and goals that fit within our vision of this organization and that the student representatives could get behind. In successfully presenting our idea to the Student Government Association, we implemented effective verbal and nonverbal communication behaviors, including the ability to clearly express and rationalize our ideas to an audience.
