Auditor is a mobile app used by engineers and architects to conduct condition assessments of buildings and other facilities. This is the partner product to VFA Capital Planning. The existing Auditor product had numerous stability and usability problems that needed to be addressed. This was a redesign of Auditor to coincide with a new upgraded backend technology.
This release saw extremely good feedback from users during Beta/EAP programs. I left the project before final release.
In order to understand our users, I did 'walk throughs' of several facilities with the Facility Assessment Engineers to better understand their process and problems with Auditor. I found that our users felt Auditor "slowed them down" mostly because it was difficult to navigate and difficult to enter the data. They preferred to just take notes on paper and take photos.
Since many of our users were internal (Accruent had a large Facility Assessment team) we routinely engaged with these users during the entire design and implementation process.
To address the Users' feedback that Auditor was slower and less effective that just taking notes, we redesigned Auditor to address these specific concerns:
Flatter and faster navigation, including a sidebar that also displayed status (e.g. has a particular room been examined?).
Larger and easier to use data entry controls.
Ability to instantly attach photos to a specific room or device.
