New Sanding System

I have been using the Grip-a-Disc sanding system for many years and it has served me very well.  The designer and maker of the disc pads that go with the hand tool died a few years ago, and then the two main stockists closed.  The first, Peter Child, in 2017, and then the remaining one, Stiles and Bates, in 2024.  The designer’s wife carried on supplying the discs until recently.  A couple of online places stocked those that remained, but they are now all gone (near enough).  So, a bit of a panic! 

I have made my own tool based on the Grip-a-Disc but taking the Hermes 50mm sanding discs and the Flexipads™ sanding pad, designed for use with a power tool.

This is the finished item with a Mopane handle, steel articulating arm, and a brass housing for 2 ball bearing races, and it works perfectly, so normal service has been resumed.
