Window Regulator Removal

Procedure for removing of the front window regulator in a BMW 3.0 CS

Overview

The following procedure is based on a 72 3.0cs with electric windows. It should work for any E-9 coupe however it is possible there will be slight variations particularly 74 on when electric window motors changed styles.

Tools Required

Procedure

Lower window, this is important, don’t forget.

Remove Door Panel

Remove plastic vapor barrier

Disconnect power leads to window motor

They are color coded so you don't need to keep track of which goes where

Remember - be sure the window is lowered

Unbolt 4 10mm bolts securing the window regulator

Locate the wide end of the slot at the bottom of the window glass where the regulator attaches to the window glass.

There are 2 plastic bushings holding the regulator arm to the glass.

The on the inside is smaller and will slip through the opening at the end of the channel

Slide the regulator to the right until the arm reaches the wide end of the slot.

The regulator will easily disconnect from the window when oriented correctly.

You should not need to force it but will have to play with the position and apply some light pressure from behind the back side of the regulator arm.

When unhooked from the window glass slide the regulator forward tipping the regulator outward at the top so the arm will clear the door frame.

When the arm has cleared the frame, move it the right and it should come out with only minor jiggling (technical term)
