In 2008, Karalyn created a summer school forensic science course offered to 6th – 8th graders. The purpose of the course was to engage and interest students in science using one of the most popular sciences; forensic science. This course was designed to give students hands-on experience solving realistic crime scene scenarios using actual forensic techniques. Details of the course can be found at https://sites.google.com/view/summerforensicscience/home?authuser=1.
The course has been the focus of Karalyn's workshop, "Forensic Science in YOUR Classroom!"presented annually at CSTA and NSTA. The workshop is designed for teachers interested in incorporating forensic science into their current science curriculum; participants are introduced to basic forensic science demonstrations and experiments. The purpose of the workshop is to show teachers how they can easily (and cheaply) integrate this exciting field of science into their current curriculum while meeting both state and national standards.
In 2013, Karalyn revised TPS Publishing's Forensic Science: An Activity Based Guide to Crime Scene Investigation.
