Volunteers needed for the Shut-in Stitchers Quilt Programme

The Shut-in Stitchers is a programme that has been running for 24 years teaching quilting (Saturday mornings), to two different groups of women at Arohata Woman's prison (Tawa).

The volunteers in the programme happily share their passion for quilting and are proud of the achievements made by the members of the classes.

“It is very rewarding to see the prisoners' enthusiasm for sewing, and they are so proud of their completed quilts”.

One class runs in the Drug Treatment Unit (20 participants) and the other group is run in Mainstream (8 participants).

We are looking for new tutors to join the group. Time commitments vary depending on the tutor’s own wishes but each session is approximately 3 1/2 hours.
