Center for Geography Education in Oregon 2018 Summer Institute

During this institute teachers will explore ways to investigate environmental issues with their students using geographic inquiry. This program will be dedicated to helping teachers learn about critical coastal issues, such as earthquakes and tsunamis, aquatic invasive species, and wildfires. Using a geographic inquiry and systems-thinking approach to learning, participants will examine case studies and conduct research, engage in hands-on and field-based experiences, learn best practices, and participate in peer-to-peer collaboration opportunities.

Included and paid for by C-GEO:

Lodging, guided tours and admissions, daily breakfast and lunch, one dinner, and transportation during the institute. *Lodging provided is modest, with up to four persons per accommodation.

Cost to Participant:

• $100 (course fieldtrip fee)

• Most dinners

• Personal and incidental expenses such as laundry

• Transportation to and from institute

Eligibility: All Oregon preK-12 teachers and pre-service teachers are encouraged to apply, regardless of teaching assignment, but program is geared toward grade levels 4 to 12.
