In this camp, students will learn the skills necessary to write and deliver a speech. They will be taught by guest teachers from Tug of Words Speech and Debate class, with over nine years of combined experience.

Students will be split into groups based on their age and skill level, with each group targeting its specific participants' experience level.

The camp will be held ON ZOOM from July 19th to July 23rd, with a speech contest being held on the last day (July 23).

This event will be conducted entirely through Zoom.

Camp participants will have the opportunity to gain feedback from high school speech and debate competitors as well as youth Toastmasters officers. At the end of the camp, they will have a chance to win gift cards for the virtual speech contest.

Students will be divided into 3 groups based on their age and experience levels. Each group will focus on a specific type of speech and will have workshops and activities tailored toward the group. The goal is to be able to write and deliver a quality speech appropriate to the level of the participant by the end of the camp.

Group A: 4th-6th grade

  • Mon 6/29, 6-7pm: “Writing an Ice Breaker Speech”

  • Mon 7/6, 6-7pm: “Delivering a Speech”

  • Mon 7/13, 6-7pm: “Check-In w/Feedback” *

  • Thurs 7/16, 6-8pm: “Speech Contest!” *

Group B: 5-8th grade

  • Mon 6/29, 7:30-8:30pm: “Writing an Informative Speech”

  • Mon 7/6, 7:30-8:30pm: “Delivering a Speech”

  • Mon 7/13, 7:30-8:30pm: “Check-In w/Feedback” *

  • Thurs 7/16, 7-9pm: “Speech Contest!” *

Group C: 6-12th grade

  • Tues 6/30, 7:30-8:30pm: “Writing a Persuasive Speech”

  • Tues 7/7, 7:30-8:30pm: “Memorizing and Delivering a Speech”

  • Tues 7/14, 7:30-8:30pm: “Check-In w/Feedback” *

  • Fri 7/17, 7-9pm: “Speech Contest!” *

*Time is subject to change depending on the number of participants.

A finalized schedule and information specific to each group will be sent through email after the registration period has closed.

Registration will close after TUESDAY, JUNE 23RD, so be sure to sign up early!
