My research interests include diasporic and ethnic politics, international security, causes of radicalization, Muslims and minorities in the West, transatlantic relations and humanitarian intervention. I have conducted field research in United Kingdom, Italy and the United States, and my research has been published in peer-reviewed journals such as Nationalism and Ethnic Politics, Middle East Journal, Journal of Muslim Minority Affairs. Currently, my main research focus is on completing a book manuscript explaining why similar migrant-background communities in the US and Europe react differently to violent conflicts abroad. Before Marist, I taught classes in international relations and comparative politics at the University of Delaware, Washington College (Maryland), the 10th-oldest college in the US.
Besides English, I am also fluent in Latvian (native) and Russian, intermediate in French, and am currently learning Mandarin Chinese. My hobbies include traveling, running, swimming and tennis.
