Information for Participants
What to expect at June Camp
We’re excited to be dancing together again, and to enjoy the immersive experience of a residential camp. We're very happy to welcome both long-time June Camp veterans and a number of first-timers to our congenial, relaxed atmosphere of Midwestern hospitality and to our new location at Lake Forest Academy (LFA).
Arrival at Camp and Check-in
Coming for the whole weekend? You can settle into your room on campus as early as 3 p.m. Thursday.
Thursday supper will be provided at LFA this year, so please plan to arrive in time for dinner.
Check in will be located in Atlass Hall Lobby Thursday afternoon from 3 to 7:30 p.m.
Once camp has started, check-in will be at the gym, during dance events, or at the Student Center, during meals. Look for Mady, NIna, Holly or Kathleen.
Pick up your button and schedule and get your dorm room assignment, if you’re staying on campus.
You’ll need to present your COVID rapid test results at check-in.
Directions and maps to Lake Forest Academy (LFA)
Written directions are on the Directions and Maps web page.
The school’s usual campus map is on the Location page. We have prepared annotated Google maps with the places you most need and routes marked.
Parking
There are many parking lots on campus. Those staying on campus can park behind Atlass Hall or in front of or to the south of Ferry Hall. There is also a large parking lot to the east of the Crown Fitness Center.
Schedule
The final schedule is available on the Schedule page, or may be printed as a PDF. (We will have copies of it available at camp.)
Location details
Lake Forest Academy, 1500 Kennedy Rd, Lake Forest, IL 60045.
All buildings on campus are air conditioned, except for the gym where we will be dancing. The remainder of Crown Fitness Center, which contains a Dance Studio as well as a lounge area, has A/C. The dorms and dining area are also air conditioned.
Workshop sessions and parties will be held in the gym at Crown Fitness Center.
Meals will be served cafeteria style in the dining hall in the JC Cowart Student Center. You can bring your food outdoors and eat at the tables just outside the dining hall, if you desire, as long as you bring your tray back into the dining hall at the end of the meal.
The Boutique area will be located in the Dance Studio.
The dorms are between the Student Center (Dining Hall) and the Fitness Center, with one dorm on each side of the quad. Atlass Hall is on the east side of the quad and Ferry Hall is on the west side of the quad.

Annotated LFA map
Lodging at LFA will be in Atlass Hall and Ferry Hall dorms.
Each dorm has two floors with working elevators. The dorm rooms are arranged in wings, with two bathrooms in each wing of Atlass, and one in each wing of Ferry.
Most rooms will have bunked beds, but we will not be placing anyone on a top bunk. All campers will have lower bunk beds.
Most double rooms will have 2 twin bunked beds and most singles will have 1 twin bunked bed.
Those staying in the dorms will be provided with a linen packet, which includes:
o flat sheet
o fitted sheet
o pillowcase and pillow
o blanket
o bath towel
Linen packets can be picked up in the lobby of the dorm you are staying in.
There are drink and snack machines in both dorms. In Atlass they are in the 2nd floor laundry room (which also has self-serve washers and dryers). In Ferry they are in the kitchen.
Each dorm has a kitchen on the first floor.
The Atlass kitchen will be locked, since we will store alcohol there. Atlass also has small refrigerators and microwaves in the hallways on each side.
The Ferry Hall kitchen will be open and campers may store personal items or medications (except alcohol) in that refrigerator.
Keys and valuables
Dorms will not be locked during our stay, and rooms do not have keys. (You can lock your room while you are in there at night if you wish.) The campus is remote and safe. However you may wish to keep valuables with you or locked in your car. If you have concerns or need a place to secure something, contact a committee member.
Check-out at end of camp
Dorm check out is by 2 p.m. on Sunday. Linens should be left in piles in the dorm lobbies. The linens should be separated by type, so one pile for sheets, one pile for towels, etc.
We save buttons from year to year (so you don’t have to remember them). Please put your button in one of the designated boxes.
Social times, beverages and snacks
NOTE: Alcohol is allowed in the dorms at LFA, but not in the Fitness Center or Dining Hall
Social hours and after-parties will be held in Atlass Hall Lobby. Alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages, along with snacks, will be provided by June Camp.
Saturday night, after the dance party, there will be an ice cream social in Atlass Hall lobby.
Snacks during the dance parties on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday will be in the Dance Studio, next to the gym. There are machines to purchase water, sports drinks, soda, coffee and snacks in the Fitness Center.
There are places to refill water bottles in the Fitness Center.
Beverages and food are not allowed in the gym itself (with the exception of closed water bottles).
Special events
Friday and Saturday late afternoon singing and community band sessions, held in the lounge of Atlass Hall, will be led by Tom Pixton and Catherine Rudin.
During this time in a nearby area (either 2nd floor lounge of Atlass Hall or 1st floor lounge of Ferry Hall). Marie Merkél invites knitters and other crafters to bring their projects to work on at the Crafters and Chatters Corner. (You can also join them just to chat.)
Last year we adopted Stockton Folk Dance Camp's tradition of "Once Over Lightly" and it was well received, so we will continue with that this year. We will begin the Friday and Saturday parties with a session of brief reviews and dance-throughs of the dances taught that day. This will occur before the programmed party requests and band sets begin.
The Friday and Saturday parties, from 8:30 p.m. on (when the band begins), will be shared on Zoom. There will be an area where you can dance off-camera if you have concerns about being seen. We are also planning to start the Zoom a bit earlier on Friday and have Roberto dance some of his older dances with us.
Friday afternoon there will be an English Dance Specialty Session, “For as Many as Will” longways and circle dances, led by Mady Newfield, with live music by our band. Dances will be walked through - no need to know them in advance.
Saturday morning there will be a specialty session featuring Yves Moreau dances, with live music. Roberto will present one of the older Yves Moreau dances and we will dance many of our favorite Yves dances.
Saturday afternoon will again include the popular Israeli dance session led by our 2021 June Camp teacher Penny Brichta.
Saturday after dinner, dress up in your ethnic best for the final dance party.
The Boutique's Silent Auction will close at 11 p.m. sharp on Saturday evening. That time also marks the beginning of the Boutique Bag Sale from Saturday 11 p.m. on through Sunday morning. $10 per paper bag full of goodies!!
Sunday morning is the dance Review. And maybe leftover ice cream for those who stay to the end!
