What to expect at June Camp
We’re excited to be dancing together again, and to enjoy the immersive experience of a residential camp. We're very happy to welcome both long-time June Camp veterans and a number of first-timers to the congenial and relaxed atmosphere and Midwestern hospitality.
Schedule
The final schedule is available on the Schedule page, or may be printed as a PDF. (We will have copies of it available at camp.)
Location
The June Camp 2023 venue is Trinity International University, 2065 Half Day Rd, in Deerfield, IL.
All workshop sessions and parties will be held in the gym at the Meyer Sports Center.
Meals will be served cafeteria style in Hawkins Dining Hall in the Waybright Student Center.
The boutique area and costume corner will be located in corners of the gym.
There is no pool on campus.
The dorm and hotel are very close to the Waybright Center and are approximately a 10-minute walk from the Sports Center.
Lodging at TIU
Lodging will be in Trinity Hall dorm.
The dorm rooms are arranged in suites, with a shared sitting area and bathroom for each suite. Most rooms have 2 dorm style single beds.
Those staying in the dorms will be provided with a linen packet, which includes the following: a flat sheet, fitted sheet, pillowcase, blanket, pillow, bath towel, hand towel and washcloth.
Lodging at La Quinta
The hotel is adjacent to campus and is located no further from the TIU sports center than the dorms are.
Hotel rooms have either two double beds or 1 king bed and all rooms have mini-fridges, microwaves, and coffeemakers.
A basic breakfast is provided including eggs, some kind of breakfast meat, yogurt, waffles, bagels, muffins, cereal, instant oatmeal, and fruit (not as good as the choices at the college dining hall but faster). Hours for breakfast are Friday 6:30 to 9:30 a.m. and Saturday/Sunday 7 to 10 a.m.
There is coffee and tea available in the lobby throughout the day.
The hotel has a pool for hotel guests which is open 8 a.m. to 10 p.m.
Check-out is 11 a.m. -- so on Sunday you must check out before the dance review.
Social times, beverages and snacks
Alcohol is not allowed at TIU, so we’ve also moved our social gatherings off campus.
Hospitality rooms off the La Quinta lobby will be available Friday afternoon through Saturday late evening (when June Camp personnel are available to be in attendance) for gatherings with hard and soft drinks and snacks.
Dorms have lounges where you can gather, but no alcohol is allowed there. People staying in the dorms are encouraged to come to the La Quinta for social activities (whether you want to have alcohol or not).
After the dances end in the evening, as well as in the late afternoons before dinner, beverages and snacks provided by June Camp will be available in the conference rooms on the ground floor of the La Quinta.
Snacks during the dance parties on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday will be provided by TIU in the lobby of Meyer Sports Center.
There are machines to purchase water and sports drinks and a place to refill water bottles in the lobby.
No other beverages will be available there.
Beverages and food are not allowed in the Gym itself (with the exception of closed water bottles).
Special events
Friday and Saturday late afternoon singing and community band sessions, held in the hospitality area in the La Quinta, will be led by Tom Pixton and Catherine Rudin.
During this time in a nearby room, Marie Merkél invites knitters and other crafters to bring their projects to work on together at the Crafters and Chatters Corner. (You can join them just to chat.)
NEW THIS YEAR: We will adopt Stockton Folk Dance Camp's tradition of "Once Over Lightly" and begin the Friday and Saturday parties with a session of brief reviews and dance throughs of the dances taught that day. This will occur before the programmed party requests and band sets begin.
The Friday and Saturday parties, from 8:30 p.m. on (when the band begins), will be shared on Zoom. There will be an area where you can dance off-camera if you have concerns about being seen.
Saturday afternoon will again include the popular Israeli dance session led by our 2021 June Camp teacher Penny Brichta.
Saturday after dinner, dress up in your ethnic best for the final dance party.
The Boutique's Silent Auction will close at 11 p.m. sharp on Saturday evening. That time also marks the beginning of a new feature: the Boutique Bag Sale from Saturday 11 p.m. on through Sunday morning. $10 per paper bag full of goodies!!
