Welcome to my homepage. I am a professor of philosophy at the University of Heidelberg, Germany. My research addresses systematic questions in Kantian and post-Kantian philosophy, with a particular focus on moral philosophy, philosophical anthropology, and aesthetics.
I am currently working on the relation between human nature and reason—specifically, on the role of affect in the constitution of rational subjectivity—in the tradition of Classical German Philosophy, as well as on post-Kantian conceptions of freedom.
Here are two of my recent research projects engaging these topics:
Conatus, Trieb und Erkenntnis der Freiheit: Spinozas Einfluss auf Hegels praktische Philosophie (funded by the German Research Foundation, 2025-)
Classical German Anthropologies (funded by the German Research Foundation, 2023-)
My most recent book, A Kantian Theory of Moral Character, has just come out!
