Theme: Analysis of data from the PICCE on Scientific Capital (Science Capital) and Citizen Science (Citizen Science) between Brazil and the United Kingdom.
Abstract: Educational projects based on Citizen Science are initiatives that seek society's involvement through different levels of participation. These initiatives are growing in Brazil and around the world, showing great potential for public engagement in science and contributing to the scientific literacy of those involved. The present proposal aims to contribute to the development of open and democratic science, bringing innovative educational technologies to the classroom and non-formal spaces of science communication. It also encourages the training of future teachers and qualified researchers to apply educational innovations and develop research based on conceptual frameworks, new theoretical references, and active methodologies. The proponent will participate in activities involving various forms of research and Science Education (SE), whether in basic education, museum spaces, Science Communication (SC), or higher education in the United Kingdom. This work contributes to the fields of Science Communication and Science Education, formalizing partnerships with the host university to support research in Science Education, scientific investigations related to the National Common Curricular Base (BNCC) in Brazil, the use of new technologies in Science Communication in both countries and contemporary demands in science education. The University of York is the headquarters of the York Science Park and the National STEM Learning Centre (https://www.stem.org.uk/), a significant STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) initiative by the UK government to address the need for improving science education and development in the UK. The jointly analyzed data comes from Brazil's Interinstitutional Program of Citizen Science in Schools (PICCE) and will lead to publications in scientific journals, books, websites, and events in the SC and SE fields.
