During my journey in HIM, I have been the recipient of a few awards and honors highlighting my commitment to the profession, aptitude for teaching, and dedication to customer service. I would like to take a little time to discuss the circumstances regarding them:
Achievement of Tenure
This honor is bestowed upon full-time faculty members who have demonstrated a commitment to the college, the profession, and the students themselves. This was a four-year journey and awarded by Dr. Sheila Ruhland, President of Tacoma Community College, on behalf of the TCC Board of Trustees on March 20, 2015.
This anonymous award is given to employees of MultiCare Health System who embody the strategic goal of providing top notch customer service. The acronym MERCI stands for "Medical Excellence Requires Concern for the Individual". Recipients of the MERCI memo receive a commemorative pin.
This award was given during my final year of the HIHIM program at the University of Washington and I was recognized for my dedication to the profession and academic aptitude through a grade point average above 3.5 on the 4.0 scale. I was proud to be the only student from the program selected by AHIMA.
WSHIMA Professional Achievement
This award was given in response to the website creation and maintenance of the Tacoma Area Health Information Management Assocaition (TAHIMA). The State association was pleased that one of the local associations was leveraging technology to grow the profession and support the HIM community. I was invited to the WSHIMA Annual Meeting in Lynnwood, WA where I accepted the award in front of the membership.
