Standard 8 - Collaborative Relationships – The competent teacher builds and maintains collaborative relationships to foster cognitive, linguistic, physical, and social and emotional development. This teacher works as a team member with professional colleagues, students, parents or guardians, and community members.
In the spring Semester of 2018 at Trinity Christian College, while participating in my Curriculum and design course for Physical Education, I created an assignment where I interviewed and asked questions to a current P.E. teacher. This same teacher also happened to be my future cooperating teaching for my first student teaching placement. Inside the interview there is a brief biography highlighting the teacher's accomplishments accompanied by questions that are P.E. related along with here responses. This document was created so that I could get further insight into the progression of being an instructor for P.E.
While working on this interview, I learned to always keep an open mind to new ideas that may seem different from my usually train of thinking. This is important to my development as a teacher in that this interview process prepared me for working with people who are different from myself. This artifact connects to my future classroom in that I was able to benefit from many of the ideas Mrs. Shimko shared in the interview that I use in my daily routine and lesson planning now.
While in my second placement of student teaching in the Spring 2020 semester, my cooperating teacher and I created and shared a google document to each other that we could both work on. Inside the document there is weekly lesson planning broken down daily, and this was also shared with our instructional coach of St. Laurence as well. The purpose of creating this document was to have easy access to lesson planning that we could both edit and collaborate on remotely.
The importance of this artifact was to have access to collaborative plans that we were using to share with our instructional coach when I took over instruction. This evidence complies with the IPTS 8 performance indicator 8N that states a competent teacher, " uses effective co-planning and co-teaching techniques to deliver instruction to each student." This artifact shows evidence of understanding the standard as it shows how I worked together with my collaborating teacher where we would share teaching techniques to create instruction that is effective for each student. In terms of progress toward meeting the standard, it verifies my ability to build and maintain collaborative relationships from far distances during the epidemic in order to foster cognitive, physical, social, and emotional needs of the students.
When working daily on this artifact, I learned that it is important to be prepared with plans at any age level. One, there are other people depending on you to complete your end of the work, and two the students are more engaged in lessons that are more thought out and geared toward their learning objectives. This artifact connects to my future classroom by giving me experience on collaborating with other peers remotely to deliver an effective education during e-learning.
