What does CARES Stand for?

The Council of Activities, Responsibility, Education, and Spirit

Johnsburg High School opened its doors in 1978. The first group of student government members aspired to make their organization innovative and different. In an effort to truly be of service to their school and community, they named the group CARES. Everything that original group intended for this organization to stand for still holds true to this day. This council of students plans many activities throughout the school year. We organize a week full of events during Homecoming Week along with numerous other activities. CARES is also a training ground for students to learn how to handle responsibility and to become responsible individuals and citizens. In this organization the students have many opportunities to lead and serve others. Throughout the years CARES members have helped with events like blood drives, food drives, troops drives and participated in nursing home visits. CARES members also like to have a hand in the educational environment of their school. In addition to leadership and responsibility training, this group is concerned about improving the appearance of the school, seeking changes in policies, encouraging curriculum themes and rewarding teachers who reach out to students in special ways. Finally, spirit is something for which Johnsburg High School is best known, and CARES continually seeks to feed the spirit of the Skyhawks, young and old alike! This group of students is filled with a spirit of giving. We are enthusiastic individuals that come from a wide variety of social groups and come together in an effort to make our school a great place to be every day of the school year.
