Introduction to Coding Theory (Math MSc, IST-UL)

This page collects some material used in my coding theory course taught mainly to Math MSc students at IST-UL. Originality is limited, as this material is essentially a collage of various book chapters and notes from coding theory courses elsewhere. The order and interweaving of the topics reflects my personal (evolving, sometimes limited and naive) view of the subject.

The notes draw heavily from the Essential Coding Theory book of Guruswami-Rudra-Sudan and the Elements of Information Theory book of Cover-Thomas. A few parts fall outside the material covered in these books, and are heavily based on or inspired by material from courses taught elsewhere (e.g., by Amnon Ta-Shma, Anup Rao, and Mary Wootters).
