About Us

Mr. Tokheim

I grew up on the east side of Madison and graduated from La Follette High School. My passion around automobiles was found my junior year of high school when I was forced to take a consumer auto class by my parents. This began my career in the automotive field. After La Follette, I went to Madison Area Technical College and graduated with an Associates degree in Automotive Technology. I was learning the trade working at Kayser Ford while I was going to school. After graduating from MATC, I attended UW Stout and earned a bachelor’s degree in Vocational and Technical Adult Education Specializing in Training and Human Resource Development with a goal of teaching at a Technical College. An automotive teaching position opened up at La Follette High School with my mentor. I found that I enjoyed working with High School aged students and ended up teaching at La Follette as a Technology and Engineering teacher for 10 years. While at La Follette I earned a Masters Degree from UW Madison in Educational Leadership and Policy Analysis. This propelled me into a leadership position as a Director of Career and Technical Education for the Madison School District for five years. I returned to teaching at Memorial High School in 2015.

Our family, Drew (12 years old), Mia (10 years old), Julie and I enjoy all activities outdoors. We love to canoe, kayak, hike and camp and spend a week each summer in the Boundary Waters. During the summer Julie and I are fortunate enough to spend time traveling overseas. Our kids keep us busy with hockey, scouts, dance and golf. We also enjoy traveling, gardening and cooking in our spare time.

Mr. Espenes

I grew up in Waunakee and graduated from Waunakee High School. Throughout high school, I took almost every Tech Ed class that was offered as my passion for building and exploring the skilled trades world exploded. After high school I followed my older brother to college in Ohio and bounced around a few universities before realizing that I was not ready to be in college.

After a few years of working in the construction and moving industry, my high school Technology Education teacher told me that I needed to go back to school to become a Technology Education teacher. I followed his advice and attended Uw stout and earned a bachelor's degree in Technology Education, completing over 100 credits in just two and a half years. My student teaching experience led me to Memorial High School in the spring of 2016. In the fall of 2016 the opportunity to stay at Memorial High School opened as a Technology and Engineering Teacher. In my first 3 years at Memorial I was encouraged to earn my masters degree from UW Madison in Educational Leadership and Policy Analysis.

When i am not at school, I enjoy outdoor activities with my friends and family. Throughout the fall and winter I enjoy follow Badger Athletics and spend time in ice rinks around the country as I referee NCAA Men's Ice Hockey.
