Growing up in the small town of Kewaunee, Wisconsin, I am the third of four children. Like many kids growing up, I thought my parents were boring people who didn't know much. As I left their nest, not only did I learn that they were not boring, but I also learned how important they were, and still are, to molding the person I am today. A few of the many lessons they taught me were to work hard and follow our dreams. Here I am, following my dream to become a published author.
After graduating from Kewaunee High School, I attended the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater where I earned a degree in secondary education, an English major, and a speech communication minor. It was during this time that I met the man with whom I would spend the rest of my life, my husband Tony. My teaching career has covered a few school districts beginning at Premontre High School in Green Bay, Wisconsin, in 1989. From there I went on to teach at Southern Door High School in Brussels, Wisconsin, for eleven years, and currently, I teach at Luxemburg-Casco High School in Luxemburg, Wisconsin. For 36 years, I have taught every grade in high school in addition to a required speech class for sophomores. Teaching has given me great personal satisfaction, but it continues to teach me more and more about learning. After retiring as a classroom teacher in May 2025, I continue to be active as a substitute teacher, speaker, and youth educator.
The other aspect of my life that I find rewarding is parenthood. My husband and I have three great children: Josh, Emily, Nate (son-in-law), and Liz. Without embarrassing them too much, I am very proud of the young adults each has grown into. As they are spreading their wings in different directions, I will continue to be the "crazy lady" who can be found in the stores by hearing her laugh, the one who will never refuse a hug, and the one who sheds a tear whenever her heart is touched.
