The Legend of Indian Henry
Indian Henry was the first Indian the white man met when they entered the Clackamas River area. He was near starvation when they found him, as it had been several seasons since he had been able to kill a deer.
The white men fed him and hired him as a scout. This didn't last very long as the settlers soon learned Indian Henry had a knack for taking shortcuts and getting lost in the process.
A kind old man then took Indian Henry under his wing and taught him the art of masonary. In fact, some of the oldest chimneys in this area were built by Indian Henry.
In his later years Indian Henry could be seen riding from settlement to settlement on his little burro, giving out advice and handing out dried berries to the children!
