Old Testament Prophecies Of Jesus Christ Lesson 2

We learned in the first lesson that Jesus is our Creator revealed in the scriptures that I shared revealing his Divinity

I want to start this lesson teaching what the Greek word “Christ” means. Christ is the Greek word for the Hebrew word “Messiah” Messiah means ‘Anointed One” Jesus the Christ = Jesus the Messiah = Jesus the Anointed One.

We get the interpretation of Messiah = Christ from John 1:41, when Andrew found his brother Simon Peter, and told him they had found the Messiah called Christ.

We also see it in John 4:25, when Jesus was speaking to the woman at the well, who apparently didn’t realize she was speaking to the Messiah, whom she had heard so much about from Old Testament scriptures, when she said “I know that Messias(Messiah) cometh, which is called Christ”

John 1:41 He first findeth his own brother Simon, and saith unto him, We have found the Messias (Messiah), which is, being interpreted, the Christ

John 4:25 The woman saith unto him, I know that Messias(Messiah) cometh, which is called Christ: when he is come, he will tell us all things.

The Old Testament prophets prophesied about a Messiah or Anointed One, who would come some day to deliver Israel and Rule over Israel. All the Old Testament prophecies about a future Messiah point to Jesus Christ, and these are the prophecies I’m teaching in these lessons, but there are also other Old Testament scriptures that speak about Jesus Christ apart form him being the Messiah, and we will also be looking at them.

I ended lesson one in Old Testament Prophecies of Jesus Christ with Micah 5:2, and that’s where I will also start in this lesson, because Micah 5:2 prophesies about the future Ruler of Israel (Jesus Christ), who will spring out of Bethlehem where Jesus was born

But it also says in the last phrase that his goings forth have been from old, from everlasting. Jesus Christ was in Heaven with the Father before the world was or from everlasting, as it says in John 1:1-3, and he was active all the way through the Old Testament presenting himself to Abraham, Moses, and various others.

We will be looking back at some of them where he appeared from the times of old like it says in the last phrase of Micah 5:2, as well as looking at futuristic fulfillments of those prophecies that Jesus fulfilled as a man in the four gospels.

Micah 5:2 But thou, Bethlehem Ephratah, though thou be little among the thousands of Judah, yet out of thee shall he come forth unto me that is to be ruler in Israel; whose goings forth have been from of old, from everlasting

I want to share a scripture from Joshua 5:13-15, where we will see the spiritual form of the pre-existence of Jesus Christ approximately 1400 years before Jesus was born. He appears to Joshua as the “Captain of the Lord’s host(angels)” and Joshua worshipped him, and he didn’t stop Joshua from worshipping him.

That means he was Captain over the angels, and he also had Deity because Joshua worshipped him, so he was more than just a created angel, and I believe he was the spiritual form of Christ or the Anointed One who made various appearances through recorded time since the world first began, as he did in the Old Testament.

Notice also that he told Joshua that he was standing on holy ground, and that’s exactly what he had said to Moses in Exodus 3:5 at the burning bush.

Joshua 5:13 And it came to pass, when Joshua was by Jericho, that he lifted up his eyes and looked, and, behold, there stood a man over against him with his sword drawn in his hand: and Joshua went unto him, and said unto him, Art thou for us, or for our adversaries?

14 And he said, Nay; but as captain of the host of the LORD am I now come. And Joshua fell on his face to the earth, and did worship, and said unto him, What saith my lord unto his servant?

15 And the captain of the LORD'S host said unto Joshua, Loose thy shoe from off thy foot; for the place whereon thou standest is holy. And Joshua did so

Yes! Joshua worshipped the Captain of host, who had Deity, but in Revelation 19:10 John tried to worship an angel, but that angel stopped him, because the angel John tried to worship didn’t have Deity, but the Captain of host that Joshua saw, did have Deity.

Revelation 19:10 And I fell at his feet to worship him. And he said unto me, See thou do it not: I am thy fellowservant, and of thy brethren that have the testimony of Jesus: worship God: for the testimony of Jesus is the spirit of prophecy.

Jesus said in Matthew 26:53 that his Father would have sent him twelve legions of angels to rescue him, if he would have asked his Father in Heaven to do so, but he didn’t ask his Father to do so, because Jesus went to the cross willingly for you and me.

Matthew 26:53 Thinkest thou that I cannot now pray to my Father, and he shall presently give me more than twelve legions of angels?

In Matthew 25:31 Jesus said that all the holy angels will be with him when he comes back in the clouds, because Jesus Christ is the Captain of the Lord’s host who appeared to Joshua in my opinion.

Matthew 25:31 When the Son of man shall come in his glory, and all the holy angels with him, then shall he sit upon the throne of his glory:

32 And before him shall be gathered all nations: and he shall separate them one from another, as a shepherd divideth his sheep from the goats:

The man we know as Jesus was born 2000 years ago, and the man Jesus was the biological Son of God, because he didn’t have an earthly father, but the Spiritual Son of God, who pre-existed from everlasting before the world was, appeared throughout the Old Testament times in various forms.

We see him in a form of man speaking to Abraham in Genesis 18:1,2, and also to Moses as the Angel of the Lord in Exodus 3:2-14, and he appeared to various others that I will be sharing through these lessons.

Proverbs 30:4 speaks about the Son of God hundreds of years before Jesus was born and King Nebuchadnezzar described him as the Son of God, who saved Shadrack, Meshack, and Abednego from the furnace of fire in Daniel 3:25.

Proverbs 30:4 …………………who hath established all the ends of the earth? what is his name, and what is his son's name, if thou canst tell?

Daniel 3:25 He answered and said, Lo, I see four men loose, walking in the midst of the fire, and they have no hurt; and the form of the fourth is like the Son of God.

The Spiritual Son of God who existed from everlasting to everlasting and appeared in the Old Testament created a body for himself with Mary 2000 years ago, whom we call Jesus.

Now I will share an Old Testament prophecy of Jesus Christ from Psalm 45:6,7. Notice in verse 7 of this scripture that God anoints God with the oil of gladness above his fellows, and God who gets anointed has a kingdom that will last forever. God also gets anointed because he loves righteousness, so who’s is this God being anointed by God with the oil of gladness above his fellows?

Psalm 45:6 Thy throne, O God, is for ever and ever: the sceptre of thy kingdom is a right sceptre.

7 Thou lovest righteousness, and hatest wickedness: therefore God, thy God, hath anointed thee with the oil of gladness above thy fellows.

Referring to Jesus Christ, Hebrews 1:8,9 in the New Testament quotes Psalm 45:6,7, and says God’s Son , who is also God, is the one anointed with the oil of gladness above his fellow. So the book of Hebrews applies it to Jesus Christ

Hebrews 1:8 But unto the Son he saith, Thy throne, O God, is for ever and ever: a sceptre of righteousness is the sceptre of thy kingdom.

9 Thou hast loved righteousness, and hated iniquity; therefore God, even thy God, hath anointed thee with the oil of gladness above thy fellow

Jesus Christ is also God who loves righteousness, and Jesus Christ is the Anointed One or Messiah who was anointed with the oil of gladness above his fellows in Psalm 45:6,7, so Psalm 45:6.7 is a prophecy of Jesus Christ.

Peter spoke about Jesus Christ being anointed in Acts 10:38

Acts 10:38 How God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Ghost and with power: who went about doing good, and healing all that were oppressed of the devil; for God was with him.

I will finish by saying that Jesus had already been crucified and also risen from the dead, but before he ascended into Heaven in Luke 24:27, he appeared unto his followers, who were mourning because of his crucifixion, and he began teaching them the Old Testament scriptures regarding himself, which is also what I will be doing in these lessons.

Luke 24:27 And beginning at Moses and all the prophets, he(Jesus) expounded unto them in all the scriptures the things concerning himself

I’m sure that Jesus was teaching them about the Old Testament scriptures prophesying and speaking about his crucifixion and resurrection, to give his mourners understanding of how he was crucified for their salvation, to help them accept it as the will of God, by revealing to them what the Old scriptures said about the cross and salvation.

I will be sharing some of those scriptures in the next lesson. I will summarize this lesson by saying that the Spiritual Son of God who pre-existed and still exist from everlasting to everlasting has been interacting with mankind since the beginning of time, and he’s still interacting with mankind today.

He reached out to all of us through the cross of Jesus revealing the degree of his love for us, and he waits patiently for us to respond to his love. His reality will be revealed to each of us, when we do respond to him with a sincere heart. This is the end of this lesson.
