Visual Literacy

Reflection Questions: How does Visual Literacy fit in with Global Collaboration, Project Based Learning and Flipped Learning? Can Visual Literacy enhance the learning in your classroom? How?

Visual literacy is the lens through which people interact in this ever growing visual world. Even Twitter with its ultra short text did not last long without realizing the need for images. Visuals can be a universal language that evoke feelings, impressions, and connection quickly across cultures and languages. Students are much more likely to pause to consider an image than pause to read even a multi paragraph article.

Using visual literacy principals including color, size, font, and space and increase the effectiveness of instruction, especially when that instruction is delivered digitally rather than through direct instruction. No matter the delivery: ideas, lessons, and content that is delivered in a visually appealing way will be more engaging and easier for students to connect with.
