An excerpt from an article by Dale Edwards in 'Dimensionally Yours' (Vol. 16, April 2020), about skill-building through the Trinity College London Examinations.

"One of the earliest institutions in the teaching and assessing industry, Trinity College London, has been championing the cause of Life Skill Development for close to 150 years. How TCL Certificates Help Your Child:

In the larger scheme of education, one can count their school-going years as important pit stops on their learning journey but it is key milestones like Grade XII, Graduation and Post Graduation, that count. In the pursuit of a thorough education, one must demonstrate consistency and continued learning over a period of years to truly say that they have "learned something or acquired a skill”. TCL’s graded exams for Initial to 5 are par for the course on the road to higher education. The US system and its colleges have very unique and differing admission procedures. There is no standard policy. However, we have had plenty of candidates apply to the US and while filling their forms, under the category of ‘Other accomplishments’, mention their Trinity Graded exams. Here too, it must be pointed out - that any educational system would value consistent learning and persistence. Hence a learner who displays 5-8 years of consistent learning with relevant certificates from a credentialed Exam Board (even if not from the US) is able to demonstrate their consistency and the college in question can surmise that the learner has displayed ‘dedication and hard work and consequently, some advanced learning'.

The Importance of TCL Skill-Building

The Performing Arts bring transformative changes to a learner’s life. It gives them confidence, presence and gravitas - all things that we can recognise and appreciate when we see it, through conventional testing still cannot accurately measure it.

The Speech & Drama examinations (and their consequent training) extend to beyond just learning for the sake of education. They impart skill-sets that enable the child to be conversationally proficient and acquire soft skills that are crucial in today's academic and working environment.
