Why Medical Informatics?
The last 21 years I have been self employed, building, running and then selling 3 businesses. What am I now doing pursuing a career in Medical Informatics? I have always followed my interests and passions and I am passionate about improving the state of healthcare in the United States. I believe that all individuals have a right to competent, affordable health care. For this to happen, there must be political, technological, educational and even spiritual change is this country. Can Medical informatics do all that? No, but one has to start somewhere. My vision is the universal implementation of electronic health records and the technological infrastructure to share these records. This will facilitate evidence based medicine that will address the issue of the quality and cost of health care. This is a very tall order but that is what medical informatics is all about. The current administration seems responsive to the implementation of some type of universal health care.Public option or individual mandate, universal coverage is a necessity. There are still economic and political hurdles to be made but the time to act is now. There are still economic and political hurdles to be made but the time to act is now. Recreation
Sailing, snorkeling and water skiing are the activities that can refocus and energize me. I have found the ideal locations for these activities are the Club Med in Cancun and in the Turks and Caicos Islands. Closer to home, Spring and Summer sailing on Lake Michigan does the trick. I leaned to race J22's when Bill Gladestone had a sailing business out of Belmont harbor. Bill's operation is gone but J22's can still be rented out of Belmont harbor.
Personal
I live in Wilmette with my wife, dog and cat. My 2 daughters are grown and I have 2 grandchildren.
