Ideas

Following are a number of ideas for using technology in education. All of them come from my study of and explorations in the field. Some of them are simply restatements of other peoples' ideas; others are original.

Course Website/Wiki

While it is increasingly common for teachers to create websites for their courses, or to use courseware such as Moodle, the idea here is to include students in the creation of the course website. Each subsequent class can be tasked with adding different materials to the site, so that over time the site becomes a valuable resource for the course.

Making Each Student the Center of His/Her Information Universe

Much of the technology we provide students is the same for everyone, and for some aspects of technology that is fine, for example giving each student the ame type of device and certain software. In other respects it may not be the most optimal use of resources. For example, each student's course, interest and therefore information needs are different. The resources available allow us to customize, and there by better serve each individual, whether teacher or student or staff.

DIgital Portfolio

Each student should graduate with a comprehensive digital portfolio that demonstrates increasing levels of mastery. Regardless of the student's interests - music, art, math, English - s/he should create a portfolio that shows what s/he has learned and how s/he applies it.
