After studying Chinese in university and getting a Master's degree in Finance, I went to live and work in Asia - Hong Kong and then Japan - before returning to New York in 1996. I worked for another four years and then realized I wanted to make a greater contribution to society. I had participated in some programs with children while working.

I started teaching in New York City in 2002 after doing some substitute teaching for a year. I did a lot of coursework that first year and got my NY State teaching certification in Chinese (Mandarin) 7-12.

I have taught Chinese and Japanese at two New York City public schools; I have taught Chinese at two New York City private schools, an international school in Hong Kong, and a boarding school in Massachussets. I have taught English at a high school in China.

As I believe this site demonstrates, I have been an aggressive user of technology in my teaching, to the point where I decided to make it my focus, and I expect to get a Masters degree in Educational Technology in August, 2012. See my MSU EdTech Certificate here.
