China Road Trip

In 1977, John Salerno, the general manager of the Falcons sent a letter to the All-China Sports Federation proposing that the Falcons visit China for an exhibition series. He did not receive a response to this or subsequent letters until 1979. In March, Salerno was notified that the Falcons were invited to China to play a half-dozen “friendship games.” On May 14, the United States softball delegation left San Francisco to begin its 14-day journey to China.
