The defending two-time World Series Champions return most of its starters from last season. The incomparable Joan Joyce leads the squad along with standouts Joyce Compton, Willie Roze and Irene Shea. Sandy Fischer had an off year in 1977 but is being counted on to bolster the stellar pitching staff that includes Donna Terry and Kathy Neal. Newcomers include Jackie Ledbetter, Margaret Rebenar and Linda McMorran. All three were obtained in the dispersal draft; Jackie and Linda from the Santa Ana Lionettes and Margaret from the Bakersfield Aggies.
The Falcons finished the season with a league best 69-19 record, 16-1/2 games ahead of second place St. Louis Hummers. The Falcons faced the Hummers in the 1978 World Series winning the best of five game series in three straight games making it three straight World Series crowns.
