National champions since 1970, the Raybestos Brakettes entered the International Women’s Professional Softball league in 1976 almost intact. Called the Connecticut Falcons, the reigning world champions had the great Joan Joyce. Joyce, who was one of the founders of the IWPS, was the most dominating pitcher in the world. With Joyce and the other exceptional players (Compton, Shea, Roze, Backus, and et al.) on the Falcons squad, the Falcons were the odds on favorite to win it all. And that they did. The Falcons played all 4 years the league was in existence and won the World Series each year. This is their story.
