In my early days as a Christian, the nurturing of my spirit occurred in an extremely conservative Presbyterian church and denomination. They, though, had their own problems that drove me to leave them behind. What has remained has been the good parts of what I was taught there.
Let me put it to you this way: My Adult Sunday School classes were taught, largely, by either seminary professors, or those who were top students at that same seminary. My attendance there lasted for about the same length of time that the Apostles found themselves under the direct tutelage of God Himself, Jesus Christ (there is an intended parallel there, but do not push it too far; remember, they did have problems there).
One of the things that has stuck with me is a certain skepticism regarding claims of prophecy coming from the mouths of people today. The video linked below recounts my reactions to two such occurrences.
One must always test the spirits to see whether they are from God. That, by the grace of God, has always been my reaction. Being a “Gullible Gary” does nothing to glorify the Lord. Testing and discerning the spirits by the grace, power, might, and wisdom of God, though, does.
