Everyone is familiar with the concept of risk but quantifying risk can be challenging for many. This discrepancy has been dishonestly exploited by the Goebellsian Zionist, Bush-ite and neo-Bush-ite Mainstream media and politicians in their post-9/11 “terror hysteria” campaigns. Thus non-quantitated “terror threats” have been grievously exploited as the justification for the post-9/11 invasion and occupation of a swathe of countries by the US and its allies and the attendant active and passive mass murder of literally millions of conquered subjects.
If people are serious in asserting that a risk exists then they should put a NUMBER to the risk. Thus if your life depends upon the simple toss of a coin then a priori one can see that there are only 2 possible outcomes and that there is theoretically an equal chance (or probability) of getting “heads” or “tails”.
Alternatively, if one doesn’t trust one’s Reason in the case of coin-tossing one can conduct an Experiment and after hundreds of coin tossings one finds that very close to 50% of the results are “heads” and about 50% of the results are “tails”. We can then say that this empirically-determined probability of getting heads ( or “empirical probability”) is 0.5, 50% or 1 in 2.
When we consider mortal risks, such as the “annual risk of dying from cigarette smoking”, we can consider the medically-determined empirical mortality statistics for a society. Thus for Western societies the “annual probability of dying from cigarette smoking-related causes” is about 1 in 1,000. Thus in a Western country with a population of 10 million we expect that 1 in 1,000 people (0.1% of the population i.e. 10,000 people) will die annually from cigarette smoking-related causes.
Here are some approximate estimates for a typical Western country of the “annual risk of dying” from various causes: lightning strike or shark attack (1 in 3 million); from attack by an acquaintance or family member (1 in 100,000); from car accident (1 in 10,000); from cigarette smoking (1 in 1,000); and from natural causes (1 in 100).
Other “annual probabilities of death” for particular groups of people past and present slot into this range of probabilities. Thus the “annual death rate” for under-5 year old infants in Western countries is about 0.1% but in Occupied Iraq this is 2.7% and for Occupied Afghanistan 6.7% - these horrendous values arising because the US Alliance Occupiers grossly violate the Geneva Convention by steadfastly refusing to supply the requisite life-sustaining food and medical services.
This war criminal refusal of the Occupiers to supply life-sustaining requisites as demanded unequivocally by Articles 55 and 56 the Geneva Convention Relative to the Protection of Civilian Persons in Time of War is documented by the World Health Organization (WHO) which informs us that the “annual total per capita medical expenditure” permitted in Occupied Iraq by the US alliance countries is $135 (2004) as compared to $19 (Occupied Afghanistan), $2,560 (UK), $3,123 (Australia) and $6,096 (the US) (see “United State Terrorism” on MWC News: http://mwcnews.net/content/view/17139/42/ ).
This passive mass murder of Subject Asian infants by the US Alliance is mirrored in horrendous excess deaths (avoidable deaths, deaths that did not have to happen) of other Subjects in the conquered populations. Thus it can be estimated for impoverished Third World countries that “under-5 year old infant deaths” are about 0.7 of the “total excess deaths” – if you know the “annual under-5 infant deaths” in an impoverished Third World country from consulting the UNICEF website then you can roughly estimate the “total annual excess deaths” for that country by dividing by 0.7 (see “Layperson’s guide to counting Iraqi deaths” on MWC News: http://mwcnews.net/content/view/5872/26/ ). Excess death can also be estimated independently by a more complicated process of assessing mortality data provided by the UN Population Division and indeed such calculations were the basis of my recently published book “Body Count. With this background we can now turn to quantitatively analysing the BIG LIE of Zionist, Bush-ite and neo-Bush-ite “terror hysteria” and its use to promote anti-Arab anti-Semitism, Islamophobia and horrendous war-making in this needlessly bloody century.
About 7,000 Western civilians have been murdered by Muslim-origin non-state terrorists in the last 40 years, this figure including about 2,000 Israelis in the Holy Land that they have invaded and conquered and 3,000 Americans horribly murdered on 9/11 (although it should be noted that in November 2007 the former 7-year President of Italy, law professor , senator-for-life and intelligence intimate Francesco Cossiga asserted to a top Italian newspaper Corriere della Sera that the US CIA and Israeli Mossad had done 9/11 to enhance US and Zionist interests and that major Western intelligence agencies were aware of this) (see MWC News: http://mwcnews.net/content/view/18569/26/ ).
Knowing that the average population of Western countries was about 700 million in this period, this horrible statistic can be converted to an empirical annual probability of 1 in 4 million for a Western civilian being killed by a Muslim-origin non-state terrorist i.e. the risk is comparable to the annual risk of death from shark attack or lightning strike but vastly LOWER than the risk of being killed by an acquaintance or family member (1 in 100,000).
Using data on violent Israeli deaths at the hands of Palestinians from the Israeli Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Jewish Israeli B’Tselem human rights group one can estimate that the “annual risk of Israeli death from Palestinian attack” was 1 per 100,000 (1950-2008), 1 per 100,000 (1967-2008) and 2 per 100,000 (September 2000 – January 2008).
Thus the “annual risk of Israeli death from Palestinian attack” in all three periods considered is commensurate with the “annual risk of Israeli death at the hands of acquaintances or family members”. “Terrorism” indeed!
It is difficult to determine how many Palestinians were VIOLENTLY killed by Israelis in the period 1950-2000 but UN Population Division data enable us to determine that non-violent excess Occupied Palestinian deaths totalled 0.3 million (1967-2008) and 31,000 (2000-2008). Jewish Israeli B’Tselem data indicate that 5,037 Palestinians were killed by Israeli soldiers or civilians in the period 29 September 2000 to 31 January 2008.
Using this information and data on the average Occupied Palestinian population we can estimate that the “annual risk of Occupied Palestinian violent death from Jewish Israeli attack” was 18 per 100,000 (September 2000-January 2008; 9 times higher than the corresponding Israeli figure). Further, the “annual risk of Occupied Palestinian excess death due to Israeli impositions” was 130 per 100,000 (September 2000 – January 2008; 65 times greater than the comparable period Israeli figure) and 323 per 100,000 (1967-2008; 320 times greater than the annual Israeli excess death risk from Palestinian attack in the same period).
Who then are the principal “terrorists” in the Holy Land? Clearly and indubitably it is Jewish Israelis who have increased the “annual the risk of excess death for Occupied Palestinians” in these various periods by 2 orders of magnitude to a level 130 to 320 times the standard “risk of being killed by an acquaintance or a family member”. Zionist terrorism indeed!
Yet it is Zionist, Bush-ite and neo-Bush-ite Mainstream media and politician LYING that has elevated a significant but relatively small Occupied Palestinian threat to highly exaggerated and scary dimensions while IGNORING the horrendous excess mortality of the Occupied Palestinian population. Thus UNICEF data (a few mouse clicks away at: http://www.unicef.org/index.php ) will tell you that about 2,400 under-5 year old Occupied Palestinian infants die avoidably EVERY YEAR due to war criminal Apartheid Israeli NON-provision of the life-sustaining food and medical requisites unequivocally demanded of Occupiers by the Geneva Convention.
This false Zionist, Bush-ite and neo-Bush-ite “terror hysteria” has fuelled the war-mongering and the Bush Wars that have (so far) been associated with post-invasion excess deaths in the Occupied Iraqi and Afghan Territories totalling 1.5-2 million and 3-6 million, respectively; post-invasion under-5 infant deaths totalling
0.6 million and 2.3 million, respectively; and refugees totalling 4.5 million and 4 million, respectively. It is not known what proportion of excess deaths are violent or non-violent in America’s Auschwitz, Occupied Afghanistan – but the ratio is about 1 to 1 in Occupied Iraq (see: http://ruddaustraliareportcard.blogspot.com/ ) .
We can estimate from these estimates of post-invasion excess deaths that the “annual risk of avoidable death” is 890-1,190 per 100,000 (Occupied Iraq) and 2,100-4,200 per 100,000 (Occupied Afghanistan) – and we can compare these values with the “annual risk of avoidable death” of 10,200 per 100,000 (Australian prisoners of war of the Japanese in World War 2) and 17,000 per 100,000 (Jews in Nazi-occupied Europe).
Yet from the 9/11 death toll – and making the increasingly implausible assumptions of no US or Israeli involvement in that atrocity and Muslim authorship as asserted by the egregiously dishonest Bush Administration - the “annual risk of excess death in America from Muslim terrorists” can be calculated to be 3,000 deaths out of a population of 300 million over 6.5 years or 0.15 in 100,000 (about 7 times LOWER than the “annual risk of being killed by an acquaintance or a family member” in a gun-restricted Anglo-Celtic society like Australia. Indeed it can be estimated that about 30,000 Americans per year x 8 years = 240,000 Americans will have died from Guns during the 8 years of the pro-Gun Bush Administration.
The ACTUAL annual risk to Western civilians of death from Muslim-origin non-state terrorists is of the same order as the annual risk of death from shark attack or lightning strike (1 in 4 million). The ACTUAL current annual risk to Jewish Israelis of death from Palestinian attack (2 in 100,000) is similar to the risk of death at the hands of a Jewish Israeli acquaintance or family member (1 in 100,000).
In contrast, the “annual risk of excess death” in the Occupied Palestinian, Iraqi and Afghan Territories is 130 per 100,000 (Occupied Palestine), 890-1,190 per 100,000 (Occupied Iraq) and 2,100-4,200 per 100,000 (Occupied Afghanistan).
Yet Mainstream media and politicians continue the BIG LIE and beat the drum of obscene anti-Arab anti-Semitism, Islamophobia and War. In Western countries civil liberties have been grossly violated as a result of this utterly FALSE Zionist, Bush-ite and neo-Bush-ite “terror hysteria”.
