Planning for Technology Integration

#1 WHAT IS THE LEARNING GOAL?

#2 What technology tool can make this lesson better?

Before we can select technology for teaching we need to look at how decision are made regarding technology integration. Moving in that direction we are going to look at two models for integrating technology: TPACK and SAMR.

See attachments on TPACK and SAMR.

Integrating technology requires an understanding of and relationship among: technologies, content knowledge (subject matter) and pedagogy (teaching methods/instruction). Integration needs to be done purposefully. Teachers need to move beyond using technology as an "add-on" and instead focus on integrating technologies to enhance learning through new and varied representations.

This video "The SAMR Model Explained By Students" was created to give teachers a broad overview of Ruben R. Puentedura's SAMR framework for technology integration. Special thanks to Kathy Schrock and Carl Hooker whose resources on SAMR helped inspire this video. (3:54)
