Horizontally Launched Projectile

PREDICTION CHALLENGE: HORIZONTALLY LAUNCHED PROJECTILE

OBJECTIVES

  • Account for rotational kinetic energy for rolling objects (we will not use the one meter distance to measure the horizontal velocity of the ball)
  • Combine conservation of energy including rotational kinetic energy to predict the horizontal launch velocity of the projectile.
  • Using the kinematic equations for projectile motion and measurements of the range and launch heights of the projectile, determine an experimental value for the projectile. How does your prediction compare to the experimental value>
  • Posters should include all equations for a solid sphere with moment of inertia I=(2/5)MR^2
