MATARAM, February 15 2016. Naila on her first semester at UB give a surprise for the family. She got a high GPA, 3.95. on the first semester. It is not easy to learn fishery for ex high school students, but she made her own way. She also won the third place on her first competition on research idea for new enrolled students. Now she received a very good reputation among her classmates.

MATARAM, August 4 2015. Naila is enrolled as a new student at the University of Brawijaya (UB). Her journey to UB was a long and complicated trip. She surprisingly failed at the first selection, based on her CV, although she was one of the best student at her high school (SMAN 5). She then took a written test (SBMPTN) pursuing to IPB Bogor and another written test to UGM, but both efforts also failed to send her away from Malang. Then she took written selection test to UB besides University of Malang (UM) and University of Mataram (Unram). She passed on all the three selection tests. We decided to enrol her at the Department of Aquaculture of UB. Her experience is about the same as her sister in 2013.

BRISBANE, October 28 2012. Imam returned to Indonesia with his 11 fellows. They stayed overnight at Jakarta before departing to Lombok on the next morning, October 29. They arrived at Lombok Airport at about 14:00 pm.

JAKARTA, October 5 2012. Imam departed from Soekarno-Hatta Airport heading to Sydney-Brisbane-Sunshine Coast. He went to University of Suunshine Coast to bring 11 people doing an ALAF training funded by AusAID. They stayed at the Sunshine Coast and surrounding areas for 3 weeks. They visited 4 islands: Moreton, Hamilton, Lady Elliot, and Fraser Islands.

RHODE ISLAND, June 23 2012. Imam departed from RI Airport to back home leading to Jakarta. The flight will transit on Detroit, Los angeles, Haneeda (Tokyo), before arriving at jakarta. As the transit at Detroit very long (6 hours), Imam and made went out of the airport and went to Detroit City.

JAKARTA, June 1 2012. Imam departed from Soekarno-Hatta Airport to Rhode Island, Providence State, USA. He will take a short course on "developing Community Resilience: Integrating Population, Health, and Environment". The are 5 Indonesian participants on the course. He is accompanied by Made Sujana (NTB), Asakabul and Wa Iba (Sultra), and Icha (Puskita-Jakarta).

MATARAM, June 2012. Naila was accepted to be a student at SMAN 5 (State High School) of Mataram. The school is regarded as the second best high school at Mataram City. Since then she study at the same school with her sister Jasmine.

MATARAM, May 2012. Naila was formally graduated from SMPN 7 (State Midle School) of Mataram. She did not get the 10 highest rank since national final examaination was carried out badly.  among regular students, however, she ahd the best overall marks.

MATARAM, January 18 2012. Naila proved her excellency on try-out of national exam. She got a good marks and ranked 5 at her school overall. She has low mark on Science. In Surabaya, Jasmine and her SMAN5 Team could not win the Pharmacy Olympiad. They are dismissed on the first round.

MATARAM, January 16 2012. Jasmine went to Surabaya for a Pharmacy Olympiad, at University of Airlangga Surabaya. She won the regional competition last saturday (January 10). She will stay at Asrama haji Sukolilo, Surabaya.

MATARAM, january 12 2012. Mulyadi Joyomartono, the brother of Ani Mariani passed away to day at 02:15, on the Rumah Sakit Islam Mataram. Imam, Ani, Jasmine, and Naila spent the whole day untill funeral at Mulyadi's house.

MATARAM, January 22 2012. TVRI NTB, a local state-owned TV station, broadcasted a live interactive talk-show which Imam was one of the interviewees. The serial program entitled "NTB Bersaing" was also attended by Head of Provincial Fisheries Services and Dr. Aluh (a lecturer on Agricultural Faculty). The discussion chaired by Indra talked about seaweed potential for poverty reduction in the province. It was concluded that development of seaweed industry was very much important for the province.     

 

JAKARTA, January 13 2012. Metro TV broadcasted an interview with Imam Bachtiar on the program "Journalist on Duty" at 20:30 pm. Imam did not watched the program as he was in the midle of meeting at Kelurahan Pagutan Barat.

 

MATARAM, January 10 2012. Jasmine was inagurated as the best overall student for class XI of the SMAN 5. She got the best average on academic records and won several competitions at district/city level. 

 

MATARAM, December 28 2011. Jasmine joined an international science competition, World Physics Olympiad (WoPhO), that was carried at Lombok Raya Hotel. She checked in to the hotel for a full week events. The WoPhO ended at 3rd January 2012. The event was attended by high school students from 15 countries. jasmine did not won any medal, but it was an amazing experience for her.   

 

JOMBANG, December 26 2011. Naila moved put from the Islamic boarding school (Pondok Gontor Putri 5) into a state school at Mataram. Her moving was unpredictable. She called her parents a week before and told them that she wanted to moved out from her school. The main reason was that she was frequently suffer from several health problems.

 

MATARAM, December 10 2011. Imam was interviewed by a Metro TV reporter at Lombok Garden Hotel. The interview followed his publication on a national news paper, Media Indonesia, issued in the previous week. He talked about tailing impact on marine environment. He said that the impacts can only be found on predicted impact sites, not on the other sites (control).

 

JAKARTA, December 2 2011. Media Indonesia, a national newspaper, published Imam's manuscript entitled "Menyelamatkan Terumbu Karang di NTB" (Saving coral reefs of NTB Province). This is his first newspaper publication at national level.

 

JAKARTA, November 22 2011. Workshop on Results of Lamalera Expedition. Imam joined the workshop for 2 days. Aftre the workshop, Imam joined the Unram team on environmental issues.   

 

KENDARI, September 28 2011. Imam attended the 2nd Coral Reef Management Symposium on Coral Traingle Area. The venue was held at Swiss-Bell Hotel, Kendari. He met  both his master supervisors (Prof. Bette Willis) and his PhD supervisor (Dr. Ario Damar) at the symposium.. Imam presented two papers on the symposium carried out from 28-30 September 2011. One day before the symposium, he attended a nasional workshop of INCRES (Indonesian Coral Reef Society), at the same hotel. 

 

JAKARTA, September 20 2011. Imam  Bachtiar presented his paper entitled "When coral taxonomist is rare", at the fist Indonesian Marine Taxonomis Seminar (20-23 September) at the Acacia Hotel, Jakarta.   

 

MAKASAR. July 19 2011. Imam joined a joint research expedition LIPI-Dikti to Lembata waters (eastern Nusa Tenggara). The expedition run from 19-30 of July 2011. The research team were 25 people from universities and research institutes, in Indonesia.

 

BOGOR, June 23 2011. Imam is promoted to have a PhD degree in an expose (open) examination. Two external examiners were Prof. Jamaluddin Jompa (Univ. Hasanuddin) and Prof. Dedi Sudarma (IPB). At the end of the session Dr. Fedi Sondita, acting Rector of IPB, stated that Imam Bachtiar passed the open examination and was given right for his Phd degree. Ani and Jasmine attended the examination, but Naila could not leave the school.

 

MATARAM, May 30 2011. Jasmine recorded herself for the highest score on Physic Contest for preparation of National Science Olympic. She beated participants from SMAN-1 which is always dominating the contest. Her achievement was very heroic as she was the only participant from his school (SMAN-5) who got the first rank and beated particpants from SMAN-1.

 

BOGOR, May 3 2011. Today Imam had a very important schedule. He went to a PhD closed assessment meeting. He presented his PhD disertation and 7 lecturers delivered questions. The meeting was strated at 13:30 and finished at 17:30. Alhamdulillah, he passed the assessment.  The close assessment was previously schedulled on March 29 2011. It was delayed about one more month since one of his supervisor could not attend the assessment meeting.

 

JOMBANG, April 22 2011. Yesterday, Ani and Imam arrived at Jombang on 05:05, after 10 hours in the Bangunkarta Train from Jakarta. In the afternoon, they visited Naila at the Gontor Putri 5. Today, Friday, Imam and Ani went to Palem, Tulungrejo-Pare, visited an English course village. They searched for the best place for Jasmine who planned taking an English course during her semester break holiday (June). In the afternoon, they visited Naila again at the Gontor Putri 5.

 

BOGOR, April 11 2011. Ani went to Bogor for a 14 days training on student counselling. Imam just arrived at Mataram since Thursday, March 31 2011. It is a quite weird family, since wife and husband hardly have time together. Within this period Imam went to Denpasar, attended Siti Maryam open assessment for her PhD degree on April 5, and also attended a COREMAP seminar on April 7-8 at Inna Kuta Hotel.

 

MATARAM, January 17 2011. It is a very important day for Imam, as he will deliver a short speaking in the forum attended by 10 ministers of foreign affairs of ASEAN countries. The meeting was held at Oberoi Hotel, Lombok, about 40 km from Mataram. He already prepared the speech on Sunday morning. Since then he practiced alot in front of the mirror, to ensure that his speech would promote his profession. When the time come, Monday january 17, 14:00, all the opportunities faded out. Just 1-2 minutes before the speech to be delivered, heavy rains came down that all ministers must evacuated to the shelter in the hotel. Sometime, things can go very wrong.   

 

JOMBANG, January 15 2011. After being hospitalized for two weeks (14 days), Naila was brought to her grandparent house at Mojoanyar, Bareng. It is still in the district of Jombang. She spent one full week at Mojoanyar before she returned to the Gontor Putri 5 campuss. On the same day, Imam was invited to carry out briefing on coral transplantation in the venue of ASEAN Minister of Foreign Affairs meeting. 

 

JOMBANG, December 25 2010. Ani went to Jombang to take care of her second daughter, Naila. It is the first time Ani went to Jombang by herself. She was picked up at Jombang BUs Station. She stayed in Jombang till naila was ready to go back to Gontor Putri 5 campuss.

 

JOMBANG, December 24 2010. It is supposed to be Naila's birthday. Imam (father) and Yuli (aunty) visited Naila at Gontor Putri 5. They brought cookies and brownies to celebrate her birthday. What a surprised, Naila was found very sick. When Imam took Naila to the small health center at Kandangan, the doctor advised him to let her hospitalized for 1-2 weeks. Since Naila wanted to hospitalised at Jombang, the she was delivered to Jombang Hospital using Mr. Sinab's car. What a weird birthday celebration.

 

MATARAM, September 2010. Since the last July Jasmine has been studying at the SMAN 5 Mataram. After Ramdhan, Naila has come back to Pondok Pesantren Gontor Putri 5 after her long holidays at Mataram. Now she is on the rank 2 on her new class, II-B. Imam is still writting for his PhD thesis at Bogor. Ani does her routine job at the SMPN 7 Mataram.

 

MATARAM. May 7 2010. Jasmine finally received score of her performance on national exam. She got a good scores in all 4 subjects (Science 9.75, math 9.00, English 9.00, Bahasa Indonesia 8.80). Despite her good performance at the national exam, she still feels very sad, since several students who cheated during exam got a better scores. Now she is preparing herself for high school study at SMAN 5 Mataram.

MATARAM, March 4 2010. Naila is studying at the Islamic Boarding School Darussalam (IBSD) Gontor 5 for Girls, after coming back from her holiday in Mataram. She is now placed at the 1-B class with other 30 students. At the IBSD, the alphabetical order of the class also shows the rank of the student performance. She ocuppies Al Azhar hostel B room #9..

 

NGAWI, Feb 22 2010. Naila is going to move from Gontor Putri 2 to Gontor Putri 5, next month. After finishing the first semester at the Islamic Boarding School Darussalam (IBSD) Gonto Putri 2, Ngawi  about 200 students are placed into three IBSD campuses in the province of East Java, Indonesia: Gontor {utri 1, Gontor Putri 3, and Gontor Putri 5. Naila is among 150 students placed in the Gontor Putri 5. The Gontor Putri 5 campus is located in a small village of Bobosan-Kemiri, Kandangan, Kediri. Tomorrow, she is going to Mataram for a ten days holiday.

 

MATARAM, Feb 10 2010. Jasmine achieved an excellent performance on her first try-out of national examamination. Her marks on three subjects (Math, Science, and English) are the best one on her school, the average scores is 8.35. The school average scores on the subjects is only 5.34, while the passing grade is 6.0. Now she is preparing for the second try out. She wants to go to SMAN5 Mataram (Natl State High School) after finishing her middle school next July.

 

TAMPA. Jan 30 2010. Imam is leaving St Petersburg City for good. He was sent by Ghulam Dien to the Tampa International Airport, at 13:00. He used his 'green' pasport intead of the 'blue' pasport. There was no probelm in check-in or immigration gates. He is schedulled arrive at Mataram on 21:00, February 1.

 

ST PETERSBURG, Jan 29 2010. In the farewell party for Imam that was held in Pamela's house, Imam cooked 'sate', a  malayan food. It was the first time for him to cook sate for other people, without assistances from anyone else. As the first experience he has been worried about his cook for a couple of days. The worry incresed when he found that some sate's were overcooked and burned out. Thanks to Pamela that helped him to fix his 'wrongly cooked' sate sauce. Everythings then became nice as everybody enjoyed the sates. First time experience always needs more patience.

 

ST PETERSBURG. Jan 29 2010. Imam is leaving for Jakarta tomorrow but he doesn't have his Service Passport yet. His passport was sent to Indonesian Consulate in Houstan for administration purpose. But until today, the passport has not arrived yet. Staff oh the consulate confirmen that the passport has been sent on Jan 26 after receiving Imam's request. When the passport doesn't available tomorrow, he will be using his 'green passport' which still has a B-1 visa. The service passport wss the document used to apply a J-1 visa. His hosting professor at the USF (Dr. Pamella Hallock-Muller) will send the immigration document to Mataram, whenever the document arrived at the USF. We apparently always to be prepare with a B-Plan when doing business with Indonesian government staff.

 

KEY WEST FLORIDA. Jan 16 2010. Imam dived on the third ocean. After waiting for five days due to extreem winter temperature, Imam finally dived at Sun Key point, Key West. The dive was made at 15:05, January 15,  in a cold water. He dived to directly observed how is coral reef lookes like at Florida Keys. He has spent two days at Key largo and another two days at Ramrod Key to get an opportunity diving at Florida reefs. Since winter temperature was too cold for diving, the dives were cancelled by the dive operators.

 

SUGARLOAF KEY FLORIDA, Jan 16 2010. Imam Bachtiar presented his study on coral reef resilience index of Indonesian reefs at The Nature Conservancy (TNC) Florida Keys, two days ago, January 14 2010. The presentation was broadcasted in the web that anyone from anywhere could join the presentation. Imam is now a visiting scholar at the University of South Florida (USF). Previously, he presented his study in the USF and Florida Fishing and Wild-life Commission (FWC). 

 

MATARAM, Dec 21 2009. Ani Mariani is named as the best student-counselor 2009 at midle school level in the City of Mataram. Her hard works on guiding her students for better achievement at her school and her contribution on student consellor group have been acknowledged as outstanding by the City Education Service.  

 

MATARAM, Dec 18 2009. Jasmine has got her odd semester rapport and she got the best academic achievement on her class. She has been traditionally being the best student on her class, but any good achievement should be celebrated. We are very happy with that and very thanksfull for the God Mercifull to our family. She is now working hard for pursuing study at the best high school in the city. May God bless her always.

 

MATARAM. Dec 15 2009. Jasmine has won the First Prize in a Quran Comprehention Contest at Mataram City yesterday, December 14th 2009. The contest was registered for students from all Junior High School at the city. She has been a good competitor in islamic religion study. When she was at Elementary School, Jasmine also won the same contest for elementary students. Now as she has spent two years in an islamic boarding school, she deserves this highest achievement in the contest.
