This is an expanded version of the Rules page for newcomers to Bicycle Racing.
Unlike running, bicycle racing is faster, and all the racers can be affected by a single racer. Please read through this page carefully to avoid serious injuries to you and the other racers.
Use of a bicycle helmet is strongly recommended. Wear it correctly.
Follow all traffic rules on the course.
Keep to the left at all times.
Do not ride side by side or in a group. You must maintain a distance of 2m between you and the rider in front.
Ride predictably, and in a straight line as much as possible. Do not cut into others paths.
Brake gradually, not suddenly.
Overtake ONLY from the right. For your safety, do not overtake near corners. Overtaking a racer who started out after you (higher jersey number) is prohibited.
Be aware of the road.
If for any reason you wish to abandon the race, move out of the race course as soon as possible.
Violations of 1, 2 and 5 will result in instant disqualification by the race marshalls.
If you haven't done so already, we strongly recommend that you ride the entire route once to familiarize yourself with the course. The race route will be swept clean of most sand, mud and stones before the race by volunteers. However, there are many hazards on the course where you should ride carefully:
Potholes. There are a few potholes, especially a big one near the corner from Javanica Marg to Mechanical Engg.
Speed Breakers. The course has a number of speed breakers.
Narrow Roads. Javanica Marg and the Approach to Aerospace Engg. are very narrow roads. Do not attempt to overtake at these points.
Sharp Corners. Javanica Marg, Nilgiri marg have very sharp corners. Be careful and slow down.
Uneven Roads. Esp. on Gulmohar Marg in front of Student Council/Alumni Assoc building.
There is a route ride on Friday Oct 1 at 6.30AM. Please come along for the ride.
Each rider must line up at the starting line in order of start, as intimated by race organizers: You will be given a Jersey number and a time slot during registration. You will race in that time slot. We have over 100 racers, so do not miss your slot. The first slot is at 6.30AM. Registration desk opens at 6 AM.
A Time Trial is not a mass start race -- i.e., the racers will not race together as a bunch. Each racer will ride alone on the course. It is forbidden to ride as a group or to accept assistance from any other racer. Each racer will start one minute after the previous one according to your time slot. Volunteers will guide you to the start line in batches.
If you miss your release time slot, we will try to accommodate you at the end, but this is not guaranteed. Additionally, the delay will be added to your race time.
Drafting is not allowed. You must ride at least 2m behind another racer unless you're overtaking. This is a repeat, but do not ride side by side or in a group. Doing so will result in instant disqualification.
The person overtaking will have to maintain atleast 1m horizontal separation from the person being overtaken. The overtaking must be completed in 15 seconds. If you are overtaken, you must drop back atleast 2m. If you are a beginner racer, do not attempt to overtake.
Call out your jersey number to the timekeepers at the finish line. They will attempt to read your bib, but this is to ensure that they know who passed them.
After finishing, move out of the course immediately.
Timing results will only be announced at the end of the race. Please await those results.
Mechanical failures such as punctures, etc. will require a restart for the racer. However we may not be able to accomodate you due to time restrictions.
The decision of the Race Marshals will be final and binding on all participants
