Islamic Banking and Finance

Topics on which either IIIE students have completed their thesis or currently working are as follows.

1. WORLD DATA BASE FOR ISLAMIC BANKING AND FINANCE is a rich source to find out what has been done so far in the field of IBF, you can access different journals, helpful websites and lot more from this website .http://www.wdibf.com/

2. There are a lot of links to research in Islamic Banking on my website:

https://sites.google.com/site/islamiceconomicssurvey/islamic-banking

As you will see from these links, most of the research in Islamic banking is qualitative, not econometrics or statistics based. These topics are also fine for MS Theses; we have no requirement that theses must run regressions or do data analysis. However, it is almost always the case that theses need to be empirical ; that is, they must describe the facts of the real world around them, to use as basis for arguments.

A lot more topics of this type exist. Current website is not complete and not uptodate; those interested can provide more information and update website with more links to relevant articles and research.

3. While everyone in IBF seems to bring proposals about evaluating efficiency of Islamic Banks by DEA or Servqual, there are in fact MANY interesting and innovative ideas which can be researched and explored.

A while ago, I gave this topic below to one student to develop, but she did not succeed in preparing a proposal. This is an innovative method of financing houses, currently not in use anywhere to the best of my knowledge.

It is worth studying for Shariah compliance, as well as an idea to implement in practice. Many types of research could be done on the basis of this idea.

In general, there are many studies of Debt, how it originated, the harms done by going to debt based economy, the concept of money as debt, the good performance of firms which avoid debt, and others, which are interesting research worthy ideas.

Asad.
