The collaborative network of four food hubs in Iowa has expanded to include four other food hubs in the region (Iowa Choice Harvest, Organic Greens, Field to Family and North Iowa Fresh). Iowa Valley Food Coop has shut down its operations in Fall 2016. Following its closure, a new food hub (FIeld to Family) in Iowa City, IA has started taking over the responsibilities of Iowa Valley Food Coop in the region. The current list of all the food hubs which are part of the Iowa Food Hub Network, their contact details and current serving regions can be found by clicking here. Below figure shows the current transportation routes of all the three food hubs trucks (Iowa Food Hub, FarmTable Delivery and Organic Greens) from Monday through Friday in a given week. Except Wednesday, truck routes are same each week. Routes on Wednesday’s change every alternate week (Wednesday(A) and Wednesday(B) represent every other alternate week in the below figure)
Following the completion of NCR-SARE grant, Iowa Valley RC&D and Iowa State University Extension & Outreach received another grant for three years from USDA under its Local Food Promotional Program. The objective of this three year long project is to further grow and strengthen the Iowa Food Hub Network, and develop methods which will allow the collaborative logistics model of food hubs in Iowa to be replicated among other potential food hub networks in the U.S. The end of the first year report from the project can be viewed by clicking here. Also, the deliverables of the project can be viewed under the Downloads 2.0 section of this website
