In summary:

  • Biomedical signal processing and physiological modelling

  • Biomedical Information management

  • eHealth systems and services

Specifically,

Her undergraduate thesis concerned human voice signal processing and compression.

During her PhD she worked on the investigation of wavelet and time-frequency methods towards their potential in detecting specific features and characteristics of cardiac signals (ECG, electrogram), and on the development of methodologies for relevant problems at different scales. This work was done at the Lab of Medical Informatics, AUTH, in collaboration with AMC electrophysiology lab in Amsterdam and the AHEPA University cardiology clinic, AUTH.

In parallel, her interaction with clinical users led to applied research activities regarding medical information management.

Her post-doc research activity concerns the following axes in Medical Informatics:

Analysis/processing of biodata and biosignals and physiological modelling. This includes development and application of biosignal processing and machine learning methods for the study of mechanisms and detection of biomarkers in problems like:

· Cardiac pathologies, emphasizing the last years on biomarkers for atrial fibrillation (and LBBB), the role of activity and exercise, but also including smaller scale simulations

· Sleep function and structure, sleep pathology (eg insomnia) based on EEG, ECG and sleep structure series (e.g. CAP)

· Patient critical conditions (sepsis) and dynamic phenomena in ICU, mainly ventilation-related

· Bioinformatics analysis for classification of DNA sequences, (e.g. as methylation candidates), and graph-based clustering

· Development of analytic methods for high throughput sequencing data in immunogenetics (NGS), and application in investigation of biomarkers for cancers like chronic lymphocytic leukemia and other lymphomas

· a series of other research questions and challenges driven from the collaboration with biomedical and clinical research scientists

Biomedical Information Management, including medical data models and databases for biodata, biosignals, information, data integration and quality, decision support and scalable systems

Personalised health systems. Design and development of telemedicine and homecare ehealth systems, focusing on chronic and integrated care, (see CHS, PANACEIA, SENSATION, WELCOME systems)
