Ioanna G. Chouvarda received the Diploma in Electrical & Computer Engineering (1993) and the Ph.D. (2002) in Medical Informatics all from Aristotle University of Thessaloniki (A.U.Th.), Greece.
Her Ph.D. thesis was primarily focused on analysis of cardiac signals by means of time-frequency methods, entitled: "Time-Cardiac System Time-Frequency Analysis in microscopic and macroscopic level".
Currently, she is Associate professor at the Lab of Medical Informatics, A.U.Th., having R&D and educational duties. She is involved in research projects, actual conduction of research and educational tasks, including the supervision of student projects.
In 2011, she has been elected as Lecturer in Medical Informatics, AUTH and was officially appointed in this position in April 2013. In May 2015, she became assistant professor in medical informatics. In 2020 she was elected as associate professor.
In the FP7 EU founded research project HeartCycle, she was technical manager and active researcher of various tasks. Up to date, she has been involved in numerous R&D projects in the e-health sector, and several basic research studies and cooperations, and has been a co-author in a series of project deliverables.
In the FP7 EU founded research project WELCOME, she is workpackage leader in the sustem design (WP3) and active researcher of various tasks., and later undertook the scientific coordination.
In the DGSANCO EU founded research project ACT, she is technical manager of AUTH work in WP3 and active researcher of various tasks.
In H2020 she is involved in a series of projects (AEGLE, PATHWAY, INLIFE) in CERTH.
She was principal investigator at CHESS marie curie ITN, national project Milord (milord.med.auth.gr), and H2020 project Incisive (https://incisive-project.eu/about/).
Up to date, she has been involved in numerous R&D projects in the e-health sector, and several basic research studies and cooperations, and has been a co-author in a series of project deliverables.
Her past educational experience includes part-time lecturing at the M.Sc. Program in Medical Informatics of A.U.Th. and M.Sc Program in Medicine, at the graduate Medical Informatics course of the Medical School. She has been a Lecturer at the Department of Informatics of the Technological Educational Institute of Thessaloniki, for two years. For the academic year 2004-5 and 2007-8, she also held a Visiting Lecturer position in the Medical School, A.U.Th.
As part of her current tasks in AUTH, she is the main educator in a series of of undergraduate and postgraduate Medical Informatics courses.
Her research interests involve biomedical and bioinformatics signal processing, cardiac modelling, ehealth and telemedicine applications, medical information management systems. In her postdoc research, she has close cooperation with medical clinics and institutes.
Dr. Ioanna Chouvarda is Member of the IEEE (EMBS and WIE) and the Technical Chamber of Greece.
