When all alternatives have tried and nothing else is working, an inflamed and damaged colon from either Crohn's or Colitis will sometimes have to be removed. In the case of Colitis, the J-Pouch is almost always an option. In the case of Crohn's, it's a patient decision since removing the colon does not "cure" Crohn's where it effectively "cures" colitis.
