My name is Huzeyfe Cakmakci and I’m a fourth-year doctoral student in the Counselor Education Program at the University of Florida.

I received my Bachelor’s degree in Guidance and Psychological Counseling from the Uludag University in Turkey. After graduation, I worked as a school counselor for two years in Istanbul, Turkey. I had a meaningful experience working at a public school with more than two thousand students. While working in Istanbul, I was exposed to many challenges about the different educational systems, which led me to want to seek further training, so that I could have more comprehensive skills in counseling. Therefore, I decided to go to the University of Wisconsin to improve my English communication skills. There, after realizing that people could drive their jeeps on a frozen lake to ice fishing, I knew that it was a good time for me to move somewhere warmer. Then, I moved to Florida and earned my Master's degree in School Counseling at the University of North Florida. After that, I started my Ph.D. program at the University of Florida. I have been thrilled to meet extraordinary educators and nicest people during this journey.
