As with many things, you are probably not the first person to have a question about some aspect of FLL. In order to assist you, here are a few questions we have received in the past which you may also have.
Can a team participate in more than one tournament?
Due to the number of teams in our region and the desire for fairness, teams may only participate in one official HVFLL Qualifier Tournament.
How much does it cost to start a team?
Here is the list of one-time costs you will face in order to get an FLL Challenge team started:
If you do not already have a LEGO Robot kit, I would highly recommend purchasing the LEGO SPIKE Prime. There is usually a discount set available after you register with F.I.R.S.T.
Optionally you may want to purchase the Expansion Set to obtain more parts to work with (but this is not required).
Most teams build a table to practice on (go to Table Instructions to download the challenge information including the instructions for building a table).
For an FLL Explore team, they are required to use the LEGO WeDo or LEGO Spike Essential. This may be ordered when you register your team with F.I.R.S.T.
After that, there are annual costs:
For FLL Challenge teams, team registration with FIRST currently costs $250 for the team. There is an additional cost to purchase a Challenge set that includes the mat and missions for the team to use their robot to practice for the tournament.
For FLL Explore teams, team registration costs includes the team registration, Engineering Notebooks, a Team Meeting Guide, and an Explore Set.)
