Odin’s Furrows
By Hoskuld Gunnarsson (Mark Cook)
Hidden in the north, a secret mystery
From the depths of time and ancient history
Answers we can give, fortunes we can tell
If you know our secrets, we can cast a spell
Chorus:
We are carved in wood, we are carved in stone
We are carved in flesh and also into bone.
Odin hung himself from the world tree
Into the well he peered our secrets there to see
Odin is our master, knows our meanings well
Carved us on a wand her anger there to quell
Carved us on his spear, to win on Vigard’s plains
Carved on Sleipnir’s teeth and also on his reins
Chorus
Carve us on a sword to win a victory
Carve us on a horn your poisoned ale to see
Carve us on a ship to save you from a gale
Write us on your tongue to tell a thrilling tale
Urd Verdandi Skuld carves us on Yggdrasil
Into the worlds it flows our magic and their will
We lie on poets tongues, on chariots of sky
On rocky standing stones and head stones when you die
Chorus
Odin carves our symbols for the great Aesir
Dvalin does for dwarfs and Dain for the Alfir
Jotuns carve us well, in their rocky home
Wise men carve us too in Midgard where they roam.
Chorus
