Mon 4 March Asphalt

(Germany 1929) Joe May: May's sensual drama of life in the Berlin underworld is in many ways the perfect summation of German filmmaking in the silent era: a dazzling visual style, a psychological approach to its characters, and the ability to take a simple and essentially melodramatic story and turn it into something more complex and inherently cinematic; with Albert Steinruck, Else Heller, Gustav Frohlich.

Mon 11 March Death at a funeral

(USA/Germany/Britain 2007) Frank Oz: Chaos ensues when a man tries to expose a dark secret regarding a recently deceased patriarch of a dysfunctional British family. A wonderful ensemble comedy that doesn't get the dues it deserves; with Matthew Macfadyen, Keeley Hawes, Andy Nyman.
