How to join

There are many ways to join:

Requesting a movie

Films are selected towards the end of the calendar year, and we encourage members to participate in selecting films for our programs. Please contact us with your suggestions for films that you would like to see. Our best publicists are our members — if you enjoy our programs, please tell others about us!

*Guests at screenings

Your three guest passes are available for friends/visitors who wish to accompany you to a screening, but are not potential members.

Potential members are welcome to attend a screening as the guests of the committee. If you wish to bring potential members to a screening (and we encourage you to do this!) please introduce them to the committee member on the door before the screening. We will provide them with an application form and more information about the Society.

Your dependent children are included in your membership and may attend all suitable screenings (check with us before the screening if you are unsure of the film’s suitability).

Membership cards

Membership cards are not transferable (i.e. they can be used only by people named on the card). When attending a screening, please show your current Membership Card to the Committee Member on duty. When receiving discounts from the State Cinema and Hobart Bookshop, you will also need to show your card.

Each person paying for a membership is either a single member or a double member, and receives one card. Whereas a single card shows only one name, a double card shows one or two names as specified by the member. Anyone named second is an Associate, who can vote on most matters at general meetings.

If a double card is presented by anyone named on it, the person gets two discount cinema tickets or two admissions to a Society screening. So, if a card has two names, it can be used by either person named, who can be accompanied by anyone, not necessarily the other person named.

Lost and found items

We check the room after each screening and hold any items found until the next screening.
