Mon 19 August The Palm Beach story

(USA 1942) Preston Sturges: Screwball comedy which finds married couple Tom and Gerry Jeffers in a strained relationship, largely due to financial difficulties. Gerry decides to leave Tom and head to Palm Beach in order to marry a wealthy man. One of the outright funniest movies of its era; with Claudette Colbert, Joel McCrea, Mary Astor.

(Germany/Japan/Britain 2004) Werner Herzog: In this quirky documentary, engineers attempt a daring journey above the Guyanese rainforest canopy with an airship prototype. The adventure is fraught with risks – a previous expedition had ended tragically. This is one of Herzog's most breathtaking and life-affirming films.
