BAND EXPECTATIONS
♪ Be the best band student you can be!!!
♪ Be on time
♪ Respect yourself, others and property
♪ Listen to and follow instructions first time given
♪ Speak at appropriate times using appropriate voices/language.
~ Refrain from talking and playing your instrument unless asked to do so by teacher
♪ Keep hands, feet, and objects to yourself.
♪ Be prepared for class
~ Use your supplies ONLY
♪ Participate in class discussions, rehearsal and assignments
♪ Students will be asked to remain seated as much as possible to minimize movement and personal contact within the band room
♪ Leave any type of food, gum, and beverages outside of the music classroom at any time.
♪ Keep your instrument in top playing condition by cleaning and disassembling it after every practice
~ woodwinds – swab after every practice, polish brass/metal parts of instrument, take off reed and store in appropriate container;
~ brass – empty spit, polish brass/metal parts of instrument, oil valves, grease slides;
~ percussion – dust bells on a regular basis, store instrument in appropriate space;
♪ Ask for extra help
♪ Practice at least 15-30 minutes 5-7 days a week
CONSEQUENCES
If a student does not meet band rules and expectations, the listed consequences will be applied on a case by case basis.
♪ First time – warning
♪ Second time – lose privilege to play that day, or lunch detention, or parent contact
♪ Third time – e-mail or call home to parents; lunch and/or recess detention
♪ Fourth time – office referral
DAILY CLASSROOM PROCEDURES
♪ All students will arrive on time and line up silently in the hallway by the band room. To avoid unexcused tardies a late note is required. (Four unexcused tardies will result in office referral).
♪ As soon as you are asked to enter the band room, get your journal, music binder, and sharpened pencils, prepare your seat and complete bell ringer
♪ Wait for announcements and directions from director.
♪ Get your instruments out silently when prompted (percussionists need to promptly begin setting up their equipment/music as well).
♪ For every rehearsal, cases should be left on the floor in the back of the room. Do not put cases under or besides chairs or on top of tables.
♪ Do not warm up by yourself. We will warm up together.
♪ There should be silence when the conductor/director is on the podium.
♪ Always raise your hand if you have a question/comment or are in need of anything.
♪ Students are to practice excellent rehearsal techniques during all rehearsals. Distractions are unacceptable!!!!
♪ No one is to begin packing up or begin leaving until permission is given by the band teacher.
♪ At the end of each class, all woodwinds need to swab their instruments, brass need to empty water and wipe down their instruments, percussion need to put all of equipment away in correct locations.
♪ All students need to line up their chair and stand before they leave their seat.
♪ Wait for the band teacher to dismiss you.
